Learning Email - 3

This is the page you will use to register your email account.  Once your email account is registered, you will be able to check your email from any computer with an internet connection because the information is stored securely on the internet.

Follow the instructions on the Gmail screen and type in your personal information to fill in the form.

Important Tips

Use your real first and last name for your email account.  If you are using your email to apply for jobs or send messages to friends, they may not open the message if they cannot tell who it is from.

Choose a username you can remember and use to contact friends, family, and potential employers.

Select a password with at least one capital letter and one number.  It has to be at least 8 characters long.  Using capitals and numbers helps to make sure no one can guess your password and access your email.

Example:

Apples18Mac- Good password

owensound- Not so good.

Do not use an obvious security question.  Write your own if none of the choices fit.  Avoid using the names of pets, children, or dates of birthdays and anniversaries.  These are often the easiest answers to guess and anyone who can answer your security question can access your email.

Ask your instructor for help if you have trouble filling in any of the questions.

Carefully type in the characters in the Word Verification section.  This set of letters and sometimes numbers is called a "captcha."  You will see this elsewhere on the internet.  It is just a test to make sure you are a real person.

After you fill in the form, complete the captcha, and read the terms and services, click the button at the bottom of the page that says, "I Accept.  Create my account."  Then come back to this window and click Next.
