Searching the Internet - 3

How Do You Search the Internet?

There are several different ways to search the internet.

The first (and most time-consuming) way is to visit websites you already know about and click links to move to different pages.

The webpage pictured above links to several others on the internet.  Some of the links are words, while others are pictures.

However, the websites you already know about probably don't link to the information you are looking for.  You can easily get distracted and get further away from the pages you need, as the links lead you from page to page.

Luckily, there are special websites on the internet called Search Engines.  Google is one example of a search engine.

When you tell the search engine what you are looking for by typing it into the search bar, it does all of the legwork and presents a list of hyperlinks that could lead to the webpage you are looking for.

However, search engines still might not point you in the right direction.  It is important to learn how to tell the search engine what you are looking for to get the best results.
